EatSmart fans will continue to select a Charity of the Month in 2014. Fans will submit short stories about the charity’s mission and why it’s meaningful to them. We began our Charity of the Month donations in 2011.
April is Autism Awareness Month!
Autism is a brain disorder that varies in degree but affects verbal and non-verbal communication and social interaction and may trigger repetitive behaviors. It can cause intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances.
Autism has undoubtedly had a significant impact on the nation and, in particular, the state of New Jersey. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 2014 report, 1 in every 45 people in New Jersey have an autism diagnosis compared to the national average of 1 in 68 people.
EatSmart Products is a New Jersey based business with family, friends and fans spread throughout the state. Like all New Jersey residents, we are concerned with the dramatic rise in autism rates. We therefore recognize and offer our support to Autism Family Services of New Jersey as the Charity of the Month.
Autism Family Services of New Jersey is dedicated to ensuring a better quality of life for individuals and their families affected by autism and related disorders from diagnosis throughout adulthood. The needs of families affected by autism are immense. The mission of AFSNJ is to work with these families, with agencies, government entities, and individuals with autism to develop an array of support services and opportunities. Specifically they work to improve the ability of individuals to productively interact with the world around them by providing services like after school care, Saturday recreation and training opportunities for New Jersey families living with Autism.
We will be donating 50 cents for every new Facebook follower during the month of April. (So spread the word!)
